The New Year is here and the makeup trends are forever changing. Sometimes it becomes overwhelming keeping up. One of the great things is that no matter how many changes occur some things, such as the basics, remain constant. One of the questions I get asked the most is how to choose a foundation. It’s understanding that there are a lot of product lines and consistencies out there to choose from. It can also be overwhelming but you must always remember to go back to the basics. For decades we’ve been choosing foundations and doing it pretty well.
When choosing a foundation you must consider the season, color of your skin during that season, under tone, skin type, and the finish you’re looking to achieve. Now that it’s winter, most people suffer from dry skin so it wouldn’t be ideal to choose a mattifying foundation (unless you have oily or combination skin) which will only intensify your already dry areas. I know matte foundations are in but they are not meant for everyone. Sometimes it’s better to go with creamier consistencies during the cold months. Look at how light or dark you are at that moment so that you can choose accordingly. Most importantly, always be sure to color match your foundation from your jaw line down toward your neck in order to get an accurate match.
