English: Health JourneyMy weight loss journey began when I realized I needed to make a major change. I was 285 pounds and wearing size 2x shirts and size 38 pants. My health was declining, and I began to notice how hard it was to do regular everyday tasks. I was out of breath going up stairs, couldn’t walk for more than thirty minutes without sitting down, and having severe chest pains. I was in and out of doctors’ offices with no real “cure” for my health problems. I was advised to “take it easy” and “limit exercise” in order to prevent my symptoms. After an appointment was made with a heart specialist, I realized I was too young to be having heart problems. That’s when I knew, I had to make a lifestyle change, or else I would continue down this path of medical problems.Starting around March of 2016, I began to start taking control of my life. I met my friend named Javon, who would later become my personal trainer. He motivated me to get a gym membership to start my fitness journey. Every day after work, Javon and I would go to the gym for about two hours.First, we started out with thirty minutes of cardio. Then, we would do an hour and a half of weight training. I started out with lower weights and more reps, then eventually worked my way up to higher weights. After the first month, I easily lost around 20 pounds. Over the next couple months, I had to work really hard to keep the weight off, and yet harder to lose even more. Although I was finally beginning to feel and look better, I still felt as though I needed to make another improvement in my health. I had hit a plateau with my weight loss.I had gotten down to 220 pounds, but still wanted to reach my weight goal of 180 pounds. At the beginning of November, after much research, I decided to go on a vegan diet. I figured I would try to be vegan for a couple of months to try and lose the extra weight. I knew it would definitely be a challenge, considering how many burgers I could scarf down in one sitting.Instead of trying to wean myself little by little from meat and dairy products, I just quit cold turkey. I cut out sugary drinks and junk food altogether. It definitely required a lot of self-control, seeing as how I would make pounds of bacon every day at the restaurant I worked at. Even though many friends and family members were not sure of what “being vegan” really meant, they still gave me their full support, which I am forever grateful for. Through dedication and lots of self-control, I was able to become and still stay vegan for about seven months now.Through my weight loss journey, I’ve lost 100 pounds and gotten stronger than I’ve ever been. I now fit into size medium shirts and size 32 pants. What started out as a diet, has now turned into a healthy lifestyle that I am proud of.
